While you Wait

One certain truth about children’s publishing is that the industry is decidedly s-l-o-w. Of course, honing your craft, finding your people, revising & reimagining, are all things you can be working on as part of your writing journey. But why wait? If you write for your inner child, you own children or grandchildren, or whatever audience inspires you, make your books.

I use snapfish and a mix of collage/photos/poetry to create simple board books that I can share when my readers are the right age. I was also lucky enough to have an artist aunt, Mary Troup, who generously illustrated one of my first stories…

I also often print a poster of photos and a poem for my grandchildren’s birthdays. They enjoy being the star of their own stories, and my work is appreciated from creation.

Now back to the journey… hybrid, self, or traditional publishing. These all take time. Don’t forget to enjoy the writing!
